KiloVolt CTV-32 Cable Test Van

The main requirement for locating faults in underground high-voltage power cables is accurate, fast, and safe fault detection. There are significant demands placed on the technical capabilities of operators, as well as on the reliability of the fault location equipment, since cable fault detection is a highly specialized technical field. On one hand, the challenge lies in the need for high-quality equipment. On the other hand, if you have the right tools—such as the KiloVolt CTV-32 system—and sufficient experience in this field, you can locate faults quickly and easily.

The KiloVolt CTV-32 is a van-mounted system for testing and fault location on power cables with operating voltages ranging from 380 V to 400 kV.

Thanks to its compact size and lightweight design, the CTV-32 system can be installed in almost any van that offers comfortable space for both personnel and equipment.

The mobile lab equipped with the KiloVolt CTV-32 system supports DC testing with breakdown voltage measurement and burning with current monitoring. The system offers three methods for preliminary fault location: TDR, MIM, and ICE. It features the powerful MIM (Multi Impulse) method, used for pre-locating high-resistance faults at voltages up to 32 kV. Additionally, the system enables accurate pinpointing of underground cable faults using a magneto-acoustic method across three voltage ranges, with a high discharge energy of 2048 J.

The KiloVolt CTV-32 offers great user convenience, as all operations are controlled via a single control unit across all operating modes. The central console features a 17-inch full-color touchscreen display with joystick control for fault pre-location methods. The digital reflectometer, operating at 200 MHz, is specially optimized for rapid startup. The joystick is designed for essential control steps and functions fully automatically.

The new hardware with improved sampling frequency, pulse duration, and high pulse amplitude ensures a maximum range of up to 60 km, along with high resolution and pinpoint accuracy. The right console features a touchscreen display for controlling high-voltage functions and operating modes. The left console is equipped with a remote camera display to monitor the on-site process.

Thanks to its comprehensive modular real-time safety and grounding monitoring, the KiloVolt CTV-32 is one of the safest vehicle-based systems on the market.
